Ellen Teunissen jury member
On the recommendation of Rob Wouterson, I was invited together with artist Kees van der Velden, by the chairman Leon Hermans to come and judge this year.
During the last club night of the year, it is tradition at the Association of Nature Photographers West to organize a photo contest. Each member may submit three photos in a category of their choice; landscape, mammals, birds, macro, abstract or flora.
We have taken on this task with great pleasure.
De Association of Nature Photographers West (VNF-West) was founded in 2001 and now has more than thirty members, all of whom combine their passion for nature with photography. The aim of the association is to assess each other to lift each other to a higher quality and artistic level. This happens especially during the monthly club evenings in the nature and environmental center “De Papaver” of the municipality of Delft.
There were many beautiful prints that National Geographic would be happy with and that at least deserve a place on the wall. What stood out was the many beautiful actions that were captured in the picture. After carefully reviewing all forty photos, we provided brief feedback on each photo. A 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize could be awarded in each category. The choice was sometimes quite difficult, so we have added a number of honorable mentions.
From all winning photos, the photo above this article is from Fred de Gier chosen as nature photo of the year.
